Greek Summit

  • St. Paul's Episcopal Church 101 E Main St Bloomsburg, PA, 17815 United States (map)

Summary:

Register here!

It’s been two years since all greek organizations got their Exec Boards together to discuss best practices and how to move forward in a rapidly changing Greek environment at Bloomsburg/Commonwealth University. This should happen once a year.

It’s time to do it again.

This time will be a little different than last time. Last time Greeks were still reeling from the recent disaffiliation of all greek orgs by the University. It was a “Wild West” time for Greeks at Bloomsburg University, and everyone was in scary, unfamiliar territory. This time, Greeks will be meeting from a place of knowing this can be done on our own. Greeks have done a good deal of things BETTER than they did when under the auspices of the University. But Greeks know that there are still many areas of concern that need attention.

The Summit will be two parts: with the Friday evening talk being a PREREQUISITE for the Saturday work session. Greek Alumni want everyone on the same page in regard to what they heard in Michael’s talk on Friday, so that the Summit can quickly get to concrete planning based on those global perspectives on Saturday. For the event to go smoothly, everyone needs to be on the same page without vast amounts of time spent on review and rehashing old “stuff”.

So here’s how it’s going to work:

  1. Each organization can register up to 4 members. Hopefully, those members will be part of your organizations Exec Board or some other student leaders and decision makers in your organization.

  2. There will be a list at the door on Friday night, and we will make sure our guest list is accurate and 100% vetted members of Greek Life.

  3. The same list will be used for admittance to the Saturday work session

  4. EVERYONE MUST ATTEND BOTH THE FRIDAY NIGHT TALK, AND THE SATURDAY WORK SESSION. If you aren’t on the list, and marked as “in attendance on Friday” you WILL NOT be admitted to the work session on Saturday. We do this, so that we are all on the same page.

Summit Itinerary:

Location:

St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church
101 Main Street
Bloomsburg, PA

Friday 8/18/23 - 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Speaker - Michael Ayalon

Michael travels around the country talking to greeks everywhere about a variety of subject relevant to creating great, healthy chapters. He speaks on a variety of subjects, but the Greek Alumni have asked him to spend the majority of his time at this talk focusing on recruitment and related subjects regarding building strong organizations and strong members.

We want to start the Summit with Michael, because we would like to start our planning with a very global approach, and from that start, drill down into what strategies might translate to Bloomsburg and our chapters.

This won’t be another lecture about hazing and drinking: we all have a working knowledge of these topics. Instead, we plan to use Michaels expertise to help us plot the course for the following day’s work session by him laying out what he has seen that works, what doesn’t and how we can best put best practices on the ground here in Bloomsburg to build strong chapters.
